  • Date: tuesday 24 november 19.00 hours
  • Location: Atos Origin, Laan van Zuidhoorn 14, 2289 DE Rijswijk

  • Drupaaaaaaaal is /so/ slow....

Subtitel: ...and what to do about it
    Author: bert Boerland
Abstract: When using a tool like Drupal for high volume websites you will soon reach the limits of PHP, LAMP and Drupal. Limits are to be stretched. Bert will give some practical examples and will show us how to scale Drupal for very large high performance websites.

  • Laying down the law: open source licensing, EULA's and a bit about copyright in general

    Author: Arnoud Engelfriet
Abstract: If you use a GPL plugin, your entire codebase has to be GPL as well. In Europe, the DMCA does not apply so you can freely crack any copy protection or security mechanism. You are not allowed to remove the copyright notice from GPL-licensed software like phpBB. A EULA is not legally valid. GPLv3 is a license, not a contract. If you distribute software in source code form, you cannot infringe any patent. Software patents do not exist in Europe. If you think all that is entirely correct, or if you have no idea what all this legalese is about, you may want to attend the PHPBenelux meeting of November 24.
Bio: IT lawyer Arnoud Engelfriet will present his views on open source licenses, copyright law as it applies to internet and other topics of internet law we may encounter during the discussion. Arnoud is associate at ICTRecht.nl legal services in the Netherlands and specializes in internet law. His website www.iusmentis.com and accompanying blog are among the most popular legal websites in the country.
