1) Semantic content integration by Paul Delbar
The first speaker is Paul Delbar (@pdelbar). Paul Delbar graduated from the Gent University in 1985 and worked in consulting, marketing and sales in the IT industry before starting delius in 2003. delius is a web agency with a strong focus on web technology and integration, working for a mix of non-profit and commercial customers. An abstract of his talk:
Semantic content integration
In enterprise projects, it is often necessary to integrate CMS content with data from operational systems (LDAP servers for permission management, ERP data for product availability, CRM data, ...).
Instead of building point-to-point integrations, we chose to develop a semantic content abstraction toolkit which allows any PHP application (including a CMS or blog) to publish content from multiple sources transparantly and to manage relations between, for example, CRM articles and ERP products. The result is a flexible toolkit, which allows you to design solutions using the semantic terms your customer is already familiar with, and to separate data structure from its storage location and strategy (not all data lives inside a database).
We'll show specific examples of CMS integration and explain the benefits of this toolkit over ORM frameworks and CMS-native, CCK-like approaches.
2) From "typing to test" to "testing the type"
The second speaker is Wim Godden (@wimgtr). Wim Godden is the owner of Cu.be Solutions. He has been working with PHP since 1996 and previously developed open source software such as phpAdsNew (now OpenX). Since 2005, he's been involved in the construction of several new PHP-based CMS and CRM systems at some of the largest Belgian companies and served as team lead and system/software architect there. An abstract of his talk:
From typing to test to testing the type
Many consider PHP's dynamic typing as one of its strong suits, though it poses some problems, especially in large, multi-developer projects. Although type hinting might arrive in PHP 5.4, it's unclear how and when it will be available.
We'll look at a new PHPUnit extension, which analyzes types and their use in function calls, allowing quick identification of problem spots in application code and libraries. We'll also look at a few techniques which make testing just that little more fun and look at frequently made mistakes.
The evening
This evening starts at 19h00 and we will be serving you with 2 guest speakers. During the meeting you are welcome to enjoy refreshing drinks at no cost. These drinks are made available by Webdoos (Webdoos.be). The meeting ends at 23h00.
Brugge is a lovely city and gives a perfect opportunity to combine this meeting with a nice daytrip with your family or friends.
